Children/Youth

Children's Ministry

Jesus knew the importance of children and their relationship to Him. We offer ways for children to learn about God and His son, the Bible and its teachings, and prayer. Although it becomes a child’s decision to follow by accepting Christ through Confirmation, we, the members of JUMC, make a promise to our children to walk with them and provide guidance at every step.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL :: MID JUNE

Sunday School
Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM, we offer classes for toddlers through high schoolers.  Children are grouped by grades and have a Bible-based curriculum.

  • Toddlers have crafts in our nursery environment.

  • Pre-K through third grades use an age-appropriate study.

  • Fourth and fifth graders come together for study on Bible basics.

  • Sixth grade Confirmation Class – Children learn what it means to be responsible for God’s calling in their lives. In the Spring, students can be confirmed.

  • Junior and Senior High meet to discuss living as a Christian. Everyday situations are discussed so that Christ’s guidance is ever-present.

Children’s Church (10:30am on Sunday)
After the children’s message during the 10:30 AM services, the children are escorted to the children’s wing for services designed especially for them.

Vacation Bible School:
This week-long summer adventure for kids through 6th grade is a highlight for children and adults, alike. We offer morning and evening sessions and split the children into preschool and elementary ages.

Preschool at Jefferson (see page)

Wednesday Nights (6:30-7:30 PM)
After our WOW dinner (6 PM) we offer children’s choir and other activities.

456 JUMP Street (4th, 5th & 6th graders)
This group of early teens get together for fellowship and mission projects. Through their quarterly meetings, they bond as a group and are encouraged to attend church.

Confirmands (6th graders)
Children in 6th grade spend the school year studying to accept Jesus as their personal Savior and become a member of Jefferson in May. This study includes goes over Bible basics, Methodist history, and aspects of Christianity.

Youth (7th - 12th graders) - see page
A relationship with Christ can be the backbone of a young adult’s future.  During the college years, many young adults fall away from church. Through United Methodist Youth, it is our goal to understand that they are unconditionally loved by Jesus through whatever may come their way through Bible study, fun activities, devotionals, and supporting each other in love. The Youth will learn "mitzvah," which is a deed done to others with NO expectation of personal gratification or reward with monthly mission projects and our annual mission trip. We believe Youth need to look at the world outside themselves, and feel comfortable outside their comfort zone, reaching out to a hurting work and provide comfort in ways that compliment their God-given gifts through actions. Last, we want the Youth to know they are the leaders of the church, and the community. They have opportunities to lead the congregation during worship, make announcements, guide Youth group planning, and more.

Youth meet during Sunday School at 9:30 AM then Sunday afternoons from 4-6pm.  There is also a summer mission trip each summer and other weekend retreats throughout the year.  You do not need to be a Methodist to join - all are welcome.
